COMPLYING IS EASY ONCE YOU KNOW WHY
Excerpts from an article written by Duncan Crow "Body Electric"
The label says "take this prescription until it's finished." Will we toss the pills into the garbage as soon as we start feeling better? The warning on the prescription says "may have severe interactions with alcohol." Will we avoid getting drunk with it? We comply because we know better. But many of us will nevertheless abandon a health program in 3-6 weeks when 3-6 MONTHS was recommended to establish a recognizable trend.
Lack of compliance is a growing problem now that self-reliance in health is becoming mainstream. Health professionals, health food stores, and doctors will all agree that there are few things more frustrating than compliance issues.
Sometimes, despite the practitioner's best efforts, the client will simply NOT follow the game plan as soon as he leaves his sphere of direct influence. Sadly, the client often doesn't seem to recognize the importance of following through and having given the method or supplement a quick wack and if it doesn't produce results right away, he says "I tried that too; it didn't do a thing fer me!" They'll second guess the practitioner or try every new supplement coming down the pike, but only for about three weeks.
This behavior can be counterproductive to a person's health and to the whole health industry, and it all starts when people exercise their self-health options but they may not be informed enough to do a good job of it.
It's a good thing that this kind of thought is displayed mainly by the old-school "miracle drug" converts who don't understand the mechanics of health; the really health conscious people have usually had a bit of grounding in biological change, and they no longer expect miraculous "cures" to occur overnight. They know that biological change can happen at about the same pace as the knitting of broken bones if conditions are right and much longer if basic requirements are not met. Many practitioners use a questionnaire and write answers down to establish a baseline, then after a three to six month period analyze trends that have developed by comparing follow up results. But some people, accustomed to aspirin's 40 minute relief, make premature judgment calls and undermine the effort by neither following through nor going back for follow up. They don't understand so they invariably dither.
Another sort of ignorance based non-compliance involves substituting a needed supplement with another that may not be even similar. The common comment is something like, "it's supposed to do the same thing....isn't it?" Says who, the sales rep?
There is a trend to toward reducing compliance issues by getting everyone to the same page, by empowering everyone with the basics so they can be more discerning and can look up the details. The knowledge is being provided; enhancing self-reliance through knowledge is coming to pass. The smart cookies are practicing self-health, mainly through prevention, with an increasing degree of competence. Learning this takes a while, but keep at it folks, you're on a roll. We are here to help you with timely and accurate information.
